BANGLADESH POLITICS
New President & 5 New Cabinet Members

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected Bangladesh's 23rd President on August 20 with 255 votes, the first contested presidential race since 1991.

Minutes after taking the oath as the President, President Mirza Fakhrul swore in 5 new cabinet members and elevated 1 to full minister at Bangabhaban.

New Ministers

🛖 Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (the ministry Mirza Fakhrul vacated on becoming president) → Abdul Moyeen Khan

📡 Information and Broadcasting → Andaleeve Rahman Partho (Bangladesh Jatiya Party chairman)

Civil Aviation and Tourism (promoted from state minister to full minister) → M Rashiduzzaman Millat

Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs → Sa Ching Prue Jerry

Rashiduzzaman Millat, until now State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, was sworn in as a full minister, while BNP MP Shamim Kaiser Lincoln and the PM's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir became state ministers.

BANGLADESH ECONOMY
Foreign Reserves Rise while Inflation Stays above 8%

Rising food and energy prices are constantly agonizing the low and middle income Bangladeshis. While the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) reports that inflation eased to 8.32 percent in July from 9.42 percent in May, the local markets tell a different story.

However, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves rose by over $2 billion to more than $32 billion in six months.

Why is this important?

Inflation is not inherently bad. In fact, it's often necessary to have a steady but lower inflation each year. That's why central banks globally, especially in advanced economies, target a 2% inflation rate annually.

However, an inflation rate of over 8-9% every month signals that millions of people in Bangladesh, especially the lower- and middle-income classes, are facing higher prices for food, energy, and all the essentials. But their incomes are not increasing. When your income is not increasing but prices are increasing, your real income and purchasing power start declining. In other words, millions of people struggle to buy food and pay the utility bills when prices are rising rapidly.

The professional secret to dough is out

Ever tried to make dough in your regular mixer?

The results aren’t pretty: Clumpy texture. Stodgy bread. Overheated motors.

So, how do the pros get it right?

Its secret is the same dough-making technology that professional bakers have used for decades.

Until now, most spiral mixers have been industrial-sized machines with industrial-sized price tags.

They also only made dough. And that gets a no from us.

To put the same professional tech into the hands of home bakers, we rebuilt the spiral mixer — creating a mighty little machine that can whip, beat and knead to professional high standards.

BANGLADESH FINANCE
Invest Bangladesh Goes Live

The Invest Bangladesh Authority formally began operations on August 20, merging 3 of the country's investment agencies into a single body.

A government gazette brought the Invest Bangladesh Act 2026 into force, dissolving the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) and Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPA).

Why is this important?

It doesn’t make sense to have three organizations doing the same thing. It makes the bureaucracy more fragmented. Having one investment authority for Bangladesh is adequate.
