Once a cook roasted a delicious duck for his master but couldn't resist the temptation and ate one of the legs. When the master sat down to eat, he noticed the missing drumstick and demanded an explanation. The cook cleverly replied that the duck only ever had one leg. The master, knowing this was a lie, argued that there was no such thing as a one-legged duck, but the cook stubbornly insisted he was telling the truth.
Annoyed by this stubbornness, the master threatened to fire the cook. At that exact moment, the cook saw some live ducks resting in the courtyard, standing on one leg with the other tucked away in their feathers. He quickly pointed this out to his master as proof. In response, the master clapped his hands loudly, which startled the ducks; they put their second legs down and ran off.
Instead of admitting defeat, the cook quietly replied that if the master had clapped his hands loudly before cooking the duck, the other leg would have appeared on the roasted duck as well. Amused by the cook's incredible wit, the master forgave him for the offense, but warned him not to serve any more one-legged ducks in the future.
