Story
An English poet was staying in Italy for the benefit of his health. During his stay, he received an unpaid letter from his friend, which contained nothing but a few words. The poet had to pay double postage, so he became very annoyed. He wanted to teach his friend a good lesson. Therefore, he procured a heavy stone and packed it in a fine box. Then, he sent it to his friend with the words “Carriage to be paid on delivery” written on it.
His friend thought that the contents of the parcel were valuable, so he paid the heavy delivery charge. With great hope, he opened the box. To his utter surprise, he found nothing but an ordinary stone. Thus, the poet taught his friend a good lesson.

একজন ইংরেজ কবি স্বাস্থ্যের উন্নতির জন্য ইতালিতে অবস্থান করছিলেন। সেখানে অবস্থানকালে তিনি তাঁর এক বন্ধুর কাছ থেকে একটি চিঠি পেলেন। চিঠিটির ডাকমাশুল আগে থেকে পরিশোধ করা ছিল না, অথচ তাতে মাত্র কয়েকটি শব্দ লেখা ছিল। তাই কবিকে দ্বিগুণ ডাকমাশুল দিতে হলো, এবং তিনি খুব বিরক্ত হলেন। তিনি তাঁর বন্ধুকে একটি ভালো শিক্ষা দিতে চাইলেন।
সুতরাং, তিনি একটি ভারী পাথর সংগ্রহ করলেন এবং সেটি একটি সুন্দর বাক্সে প্যাক করলেন। তারপর তিনি বাক্সটির ওপর লিখলেন, “পৌঁছে দেওয়ার খরচ প্রাপককে দিতে হবে,” এবং সেটি তাঁর বন্ধুর কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।
তাঁর বন্ধু ভাবলেন যে পার্সেলটির ভেতরে নিশ্চয়ই মূল্যবান কিছু আছে। তাই তিনি সেটি গ্রহণ করার সময় বহনের ভারী খরচ পরিশোধ করলেন। অনেক আশা নিয়ে তিনি বাক্সটি খুললেন। কিন্তু তাঁর অসম্ভব বিস্ময়ের বিষয়, তিনি বাক্সের ভেতরে একটি সাধারণ পাথর ছাড়া আর কিছুই পেলেন না। এভাবেই কবি তাঁর বন্ধুকে একটি ভালো শিক্ষা দিলেন।
