Story
Sheikh Saadi, a renowned Persian poet, was on his way to the emperor's palace.
Night fell on the road, so he stopped and asked for shelter at a courtier's house. He was wearing his usual plain, inexpensive clothes - the courtier did not recognize him and treated him with complete indifference, giving him only a small meal and poor accommodation.
Saadi continued to the palace, was warmly received by the emperor, and was gifted a set of luxurious, expensive clothes.
On his way back home, he deliberately stopped at the very same courtier's house - this time wearing the emperor's fine clothes. The courtier and his servants were instantly transformed: they laid out a feast of delicious dishes.
During the meal, Saadi began stuffing the food into the folds of his fine clothes - literally feeding his garments. The shocked courtier asked why.
Saadi replied calmly: the clothes deserve the food, not him. The last time he came in ordinary clothes, he was shown nothing. So clearly, the welcome was never for him - it was for what he wore.

শেখ সাদি, একজন বিখ্যাত পারসি কবি, সম্রাটের প্রাসাদের উদ্দেশ্যে যাত্রা করছিলেন।
পথে রাত নেমে এল। তিনি একজন দরবারির বাড়িতে আশ্রয় চাইলেন। সেদিন তাঁর পরনে ছিল তাঁর চিরপরিচিত সাধারণ, সস্তা পোশাক - দরবারি তাঁকে চিনতে পারলেন না এবং সম্পূর্ণ উদাসীনভাবে তাঁর সাথে ব্যবহার করলেন। দিলেন সামান্য খাবার আর নিম্নমানের থাকার জায়গা।
সাদি প্রাসাদে পৌঁছালেন। সম্রাট তাঁকে উষ্ণভাবে স্বাগত জানালেন এবং উপহার হিসেবে একসেট দামি, বিলাসবহুল পোশাক দিলেন।
ফেরার পথে তিনি ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে সেই একই দরবারির বাড়িতে আবার থামলেন - এবার গায়ে সম্রাটের দেওয়া সেই জাঁকালো পোশাক। দরবারি এবং তাঁর সেবকরা যেন রাতারাতি বদলে গেলেন - সামনে সাজিয়ে দিলেন সুস্বাদু খাবারের এক বিশাল আয়োজন।
খাওয়ার মাঝে সাদি হঠাৎ তাঁর দামি পোশাকের ভাঁজে ভাঁজে খাবার ঢুকাতে শুরু করলেন - রীতিমতো তাঁর পোশাককে খাওয়াতে লাগলেন। হতবাক দরবারি জিজ্ঞেস করলেন কেন।
সাদি শান্তভাবে জবাব দিলেন - খাবারের হকদার তাঁর পোশাক, তিনি নন। গত বার যখন তিনি সাধারণ পোশাকে এসেছিলেন, তখন কিছুই জোটেনি। সুতরাং এটা স্পষ্ট - এই আতিথেয়তা কখনো তাঁর জন্য ছিল না, ছিল শুধু তাঁর পোশাকের জন্য।
