Story
Once upon a time there was an honest and pious man named Abu Ben Adhem.
One night he was sleeping peacefully when he suddenly woke up and saw a remarkable sight - an angel in his room, writing something in a golden book.
Abu asked what the angel was writing. The angel replied that he was recording the names of all those who love God.
Abu asked quietly whether his own name was there. The angel said no - his name was not on the list.
Abu was not upset. He made a calm, humble request: "Then write me down as one who loves his fellow men and his brothers." The angel took down his request and disappeared.
The very next night, the angel returned. This time he showed Abu the list of those whom God has chosen to bless, and Abu Ben Adhem's name was at the very top.

একসময় আবু বেন আদহেম নামে এক সৎ ও ধার্মিক মানুষ ছিলেন।
এক রাতে তিনি শান্তিতে ঘুমাচ্ছিলেন। হঠাৎ তাঁর ঘুম ভেঙে গেল এবং তিনি এক অবাক করা দৃশ্য দেখলেন - তাঁর ঘরে একজন ফেরেশতা, একটি সোনার বইয়ে কিছু লিখছেন।
আবু জিজ্ঞেস করলেন ফেরেশতা কী লিখছেন। ফেরেশতা জবাব দিলেন যে তিনি সেই সব মানুষের নাম লিখছেন যারা আল্লাহকে ভালোবাসেন।
আবু নরম গলায় জিজ্ঞেস করলেন তাঁর নিজের নাম সেখানে আছে কি না। ফেরেশতা বললেন - না, তাঁর নাম সেই তালিকায় নেই।
আবু মোটেও বিচলিত হলেন না। তিনি শান্তভাবে, বিনম্রভাবে একটি অনুরোধ করলেন - "তাহলে আমাকে এমন একজন মানুষ হিসেবে লিখে রাখুন যে তার সহমানুষদের এবং ভাইদের ভালোবাসে।" ফেরেশতা তাঁর অনুরোধ লিখে নিলেন এবং চলে গেলেন।
ঠিক পরের রাতে ফেরেশতা আবার ফিরে এলেন। এবার তিনি আবুকে সেই তালিকা দেখালেন যাদের আল্লাহ আশীর্বাদ করতে বেছে নিয়েছেন - আর সেই তালিকার একদম শীর্ষে ছিল আবু বেন আদহেমের নাম।
